The weather could not have been any better on Sunday, Oct. 25, for the 2026 Fall Open House at the Packard Proving Grounds historic site. Beyond the 20 lovely Packards parked in the courtyard between the two historic Albert Kahn buildings (the Lodge and the Repair Garage), car enthusiasts from around Utica, Michigan, brought at least another 200 classic cars from Corvettes, Mustangs and Cadillacs to a Studebaker, a LaSalle, and a pristine 1950s-era Chevrolet 3100 pickup truck two-tone painted cream and burgundy, just like the vintage Indian motorized bicycle locked in the bed. In the tank building, historian Pat Connell told an attentive crowd about the proving grounds, which opened in 1928, and its importance to Packard during its heyday.
